However, dry embossing of craft metal can be done by hand using a texture plate (or other object which has a texture that can be transferred to the metal) and a rubbing stump or you can use a machine such as the Tim Holtz Vagabond Machine (electric) or a Sizzix (manual). I have both and acquired them during my scrapbooking craze days, although I ended up doing more paper projects then scrapbooks…

Using a texture plate or embossing folder, you would place the sheet of craft metal as directed and run it through the machine. This will emboss the selected texture into the metal. Manually with a rubbing stump gives you the same outcome; however, it is a by-hand process that can be tedious to some and time consuming to all. Both machines are also capable of die cutting as well.
Once you have embossed the metal, you can use alcohol inks or other mediums to color and further embellish. This is a really neat and easy way to add texture and other materials in addition to paper to your art journal or other projects. Look for a short video tomorrow where I will demonstrate the process using both the Vagabond and the Big Shot machines.
